7 Practices for effective Internet Marketing

INTERNET MARKETING, a fairly new service in South Africa. Some are not even sure in which industry it falls under. Some businesses are not certain if it really works. I had a client tell me while I was presenting that the internet is where her kids download games. "Yes", I responded, "but it could also save you a lot of time, in targeting your prospects, instead of cold calling." She listened, but could not hide her skepticism (a firm believer in cold calling).

Its a numbers game and internet marketing is all about numbers. Internet marketing will create thousands of prospects in your area whom are interested in your products or services, than cold calling and conventional marketing could ever achieve. Well, one may argue, as my client did. If it is so good, why is everyone not doing it. To answer quite simply, they don't understand it, and the perception is, if you don't understand it, it will not work, and this is off course far from the truth.

Enlyne Branding has developed 7 Practices for effective Internet Marketing. This are guides to assist in launching a successful campaign:
1. Start With An End In Mind
Sound familiar? Yes, this principle does not only apply to personal development. It is important to know what you want to achieve. Often businesses get  results from their internet marketing campaigns and have no idea whether the results are good or not. Keeping your goal in mind, assists with keeping your focus in check.

2. Plan In Detail
Ever heard of the term GIGO (Garbage In, Garbage Out). It is exactly what your Internet Marketing Campaign will give you if you don't plan all the details. And when planning use the S.M.A.R.T model. These principles also apply to Internet Marketing. When deciding to pursue Internet Marketing, Enlyne Branding suggests you go with the Big 4. (SEO, Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn)

3. Take Time Developing Your Content
Develop content that will attract and engage your audience. Fail to capture them, you will fail to convince them to buy. A couple of things to keep in mind while developing your content is:

  • Know what you are selling
  • Cut to the chase
  • Keep it simple
4. Deliver The Message Clearly
Do not complicate the message. The message should compel the customer to want to buy and not take them on a tangent that complicates the process of buying. Please don't mistaken me for not being creative. The message should creatively engage the customer emotionally.

5. Follow The Plan
If you have developed a solid plan, follow it, do not change it because you have not seen results in a week. This must also mirror your sales life cycle. If your sales life cycle is 30 days, give it 45 days before you amend or reconstruct another plan.

6. Do It
Do not think that once you have launched your campaign everything will go into auto-cruise and you will sit and customers will come begging for your services. Follow your plan, follow your schedule, follow up on questions, engage your customers. Most of all "Do It" close a sale whenever you can. Often you have a perfect campaign and customers are calling and you forget to ask them if they want to buy. Do It, this is the reason why they left their details on your website.

7. Re-invest
We have had clients who have successful campaigns and they start smoking the cigar too soon. The customer is looking for the next big thing and they are waiting for you and you are off to the islands for a vacation. There is no permanent success in Internet Marketing, you need to constantly re-invest in your tools, re-invest your time, think about another campaign or simply re-thinking on how you can deliver the same message more  creatively.
